Frequently Asked Questions
+Are my PDF files uploaded to a server?
No. Compression runs entirely in your browser using PDF.js and pdf-lib. Your files never leave your device.
+Will I lose text or links in my PDF?
Yes — this tool rasterises each page to an image, which removes searchable text and clickable links. Visual content (layouts, images, graphics) is fully preserved. Use the High quality level to keep text legible.
+Which compression level should I use?
Use Small file for email attachments or uploads with size limits. Balanced is the best all-round choice. High quality is for printing or when the PDF contains fine detail.
+Can I compress an encrypted or password-protected PDF?
No. Password-protected PDFs cannot be processed in the browser without the password. Remove the password first, then compress.
+How much smaller will my PDF be?
Scanned-document PDFs typically shrink 60–80% at the Small file level. Text-heavy native PDFs compress 30–50%. PDFs already using heavy image compression may see less reduction.
