How SVG Compression Works

Unlike JPG or PNG, SVG files are text, so they can't be "re-encoded". Instead, this tool removes everything that doesn't affect rendering: comments, metadata, editor clutter, redundant attributes, and unnecessary decimal precision.

Default vs Custom

Default applies the complete preset-default for the best all-round result with zero effort. Custom lets you toggle individual optimizations on or off, set numeric precision, and enable multipass for the smallest possible file.

Which settings are safe?

Every option in the Remove and Optimize groups is safe and enabled by default, your graphic will render identically. The Aggressive group (title, viewBox, width/height, scripts) is off by default because it can change behaviour: removing viewBox breaks responsive scaling, and removing <title> drops the screen-reader label.

How much smaller will my file be?

Editor-exported SVGs with indentation, editor namespaces, and full-precision coordinates often shrink 30–70%. Already-minified SVGs may show little change, which means your file is already lean.

Frequently Asked Questions

+Are my SVG files uploaded to a server?

No. Compression runs entirely in your browser. Your files never leave your device.

+What does SVG compression actually remove?

Comments, the XML declaration and doctype, metadata, editor-specific namespaces (Inkscape, Illustrator), empty and redundant elements, unused definitions, and unnecessary decimal precision. The result is a smaller file that renders identically.

+What's the difference between Default and Custom mode?

Default applies the complete preset for the best all-round result with zero effort. Custom lets you toggle individual optimizations, set decimal precision, and enable multipass for the smallest possible file.

+Will my SVG look different after compression?

No. The safe optimizations (enabled by default) preserve the visual appearance exactly. Aggressive options like removing viewBox or title are off by default because they can change scaling or accessibility.
